Hi All

During some prime time snuggling earlier this evening I noticed a pink round warty type thing on the inside edge of Monty's lips. At first I thought it may be a tic as we've been out in the country but it's definitely fleshy. I then peeled back his flap (mush to his displeasure!!!) and say about 4 or 5 whitish rice crispy like things. They are they size of a rice crispie (I hope you guys have that cereal, possible similar to ricicles?). I am now wondering what on earth these are???? Could it just be him catching the skin of his inner cheek between his teeth after all he is extremely droopy or is it something more sinister??? Thought i'd check with you guys before phoning the vet for yet another overpriced disappointment!

Thanks

Sounds like they could very well be canine papillomas, otherwise known as warts. They tend to have a cauliflower-like appearance, from what I understand. We thought that Larsen had one on his tongue, although his did not look like the typical wart and he only had the one and not a bunch of them. Anyway, our vet had us keep an eye on it for a little while, and said that they can resolve on their own but may take some time. His did go away but it took a few weeks.

Abby seems to get those once in awhile around her jowles or below her nose. Her's seem to more like "zits". Yeah, I know this is gross, but if I squeeze them and put zit cream on them, they heal. Jake doesn't really have this issue. I think it is because Abby is so much more wrinkly.

Maddie gets these also, and the veterinary said it's because of how her skin folds, keeping her mouth area wet all the time. I have a spray I apply to a cloth and then use to clean and dry the area, and she clears up for a while. She gets relief from it apparently, as she lets me do this with no fuss.
