A 4 month old female was x-rayed by the Vet,the heart was inlarged. She was acting a little tired and was not eating as well as she had been.
Is the heart of a basset larger in the chest cavity than other dog breeds?
I was wondering during growth spurts(with pups) do internal organs grow faster and the body catches up,or is it a gradual growth thing?
She seems to be acting normal now,I thought it was the heat.

I had a similar experience with one of my bassets, as an adult. My vet thought the heart was enlarged, but a veterinary radiologist consultant called it normal size. I think vets sometimes forget bassets are big dogs with big organs, just short legs. You could send the x-ray to a veterinary radiologist for a second opinion. You could also correlate with other signs/symptoms that might also suggest a problem, such as a heart murmur, cough, abnormal lab studies, etc. If the situation continues to be questionable, an echocardiogram (ultrasound exam of the heart) would tell you more specifically whether there's a problem like a malformation. Keep us posted. :)
