World's Oldest Basset Hound?

One of our Bassets, Buster, was rescued from an extrememely negligent neighbor in August of 1993. At the time, the vet said he appeared to be about 6 months old which makes him at least 18 YEARS OLD! He is ancient, blind, mostly deaf, but eats like a champ and tries - mostly failing ;>) - to make it outside to tinkle etc.
Our Super Happy Fun Boy must be close to setting an age record. What's the oldest Basset you've known?
Our younger Basset, Bonnie, will be 13 in December.
Long may they run!

I think he might win! I was impressed by the lady on the next block with the 15 year old basset. Continue holding that record, Buster!

Molly and Winston love his name...that's their dad's name (their basset dad, not their human dad LOL).
Welcome Buster and Bonnie! We'd love to see pictures of these guys in action :)
I had one that live past the age of 17 and know of a few 18 year olds.
They guessed that Anabelle was 8 when we adopted her, but it was a total guess based on teeth, etc. I am just glad she has made it this far and she is more than welcome to stick around and let us enjoy her company for as long as she wants :p

29 years old for a cattle dog! Crazy.
World's Oldest

I will post pix of them when I get home from work. What amazes me is that Buster, short of going blind 7 years ago, has had almost zero health problems. He collapsed last September and we thought we'd lose him, but he came back. All he would eat for a while was buttered toast and scrambled eggs...that's our fallback diet when he turns up his nose at other food. Man, he loves his toast! As far as we're concerned, he can have whatever he darn well wants. Our vet wrote in Buster's file that he's a "ticking time bomb." We always get a laugh out of that.
The key is good nutrition, appropriate exercise, regular vet care, and good genetics. That sounds like humans actually.
The Album Has Landed

I just posted an album titled, Buster, World's Oldest Basset & Bonnie. I wish I had more pix online, most of our are in old-school photo albums that might - someday - be scanned in. Hope you enjoy these.
Just looked at the album. Was a real pleasure to see your old guy. Mine is nearly ten and vet says he's old. Gave me hope that he has many good years left when I saw this.
My Basset is also 18... He can hear and see fine and he runs up and down our stairs several times a day. Vets can't explain why he has lasted this long an expect him to last a few more years.
I have not heard past 18...i hope they all live long and healthy!
Congrats Buster! I'm sure glad to hear how well you're doing. Mr. Peabody can no longer do steep/long stairs but can still get frisky if the mood strikes. He also loves scrambled eggs & bread although I don't toast it-my bad. He was a throw-away in 1999 & the vet thought he was about 2 then, so he's between 13 & 15 or older. Gotta love our old hounds! Off to see your pics.

Our beautiful boy Hudson will be 14 yrs old on 1/27/2021. He still acts like he's 7 yrs old. Loves going to the golf coarse running around in 2-3 inches of snow. Loves chicken and cheese.
My brother in laws dog Harley turned 19 in December. Sadly he may have to be put down soon due to my BIL having a terminal disease.
