Once you get something (in this case, a basset hound) all of a sudden you see/hear about them everywhere? I stopped into our farm supply store yesterday for cat food. A gal working there says hey, you have a basset right? Yes, I do. Want another one? I guess the manager's daughter is having a baby soon and doesn't have time for her 1 year old male, so she is trying to find him a home.

Now, I would LOVE to have another one. However, Flash is still pretty young and we need to work with him on us being trained when he needs to go potty. One cat has accepted him, the other hates him. I think a bigger dog would result in both cats mad. Plus my husband says no, we cannot afford two dogs-twice the vet bills, twice the food expense, etc.

There are also several bassets listed on craigslist too. ugh...I want them all!!!!

I know exactly how you feel...I want to rescue a sister for Woody but am having such a hard time not taking them all......then I would be the Basset house...as it is I am known as "Hey, Woody's mom":p. That would change to "Hey, it's the crazy basset lady"
Bassets are everywhere! I noticed them in 2 separate ads in the paper yesterday, then I saw one on a commercial. I love it though. Still don't see them around our town...I know they're out there, I just don't see them.
When we changed the condo rules to allow pets, I made a point of putting in "one dog or cat," because I didn't trust myself.

What gets me is the pictures on the pet products. If it has to do with smells or messes, they have a picture of a basset on the label. I think that is profiling.
I went to craigslist again today (I know, I never learn!) Between last night and this afternoon, 2 separate pups were listed-one 12 weeks old that isn't papered and they want $150 for, and a 14 week old pup for 50 bucks. Sigh. I keep thinking that would be a great playmate for Flash, but he does good with one of my cats. I enjoy his antics though and I bet two would be even funnier! I need to just stay away from the pets section I guess!

Two are twice as much work, but also twice as much fun. You have to weigh the pros and cons...BEFORE looking at ads, rescues, or even pictures. Otherwise, you are destined to lose;)
I completely agree....

Molly and Winston's mom...that avatar of the mighty duo is adorable...been wanting to tell you....those 2 could get away with murder with those adorable faces...just saying..I am a basset push over.

How true - but we need to add - for diet products also. Do you think they are trying to tell us something? :D

Thank goodness we have the city allowed limit on number of dogs or I'm sure we would have another in our pack.

Thanks! I am going to get it printed in color and hang it at my desk at work. So when students come to complain about a grade I gave them, they'll be overwhelmed by the cuteness and soften up a bit (college kids can be ornery sometimes).

Molly and Winston get away with murder...especially Winston. Molly's really a good girl.
HA! I just remembered, our doggy toothpaste has a picture of a basset on it. I think they're just so photogenic.
Ok you guys I hate to be a mood killer here and ya'all are just wishin' but you know anything advertised on Craigslist is not going to be good quality .Being a breeder I have a soft heart for those too but you know what you could end up with and you would not be happy about it. Just sayin'.
I would never go through someplace like Craigslist for a dog. For over 10 years we’ve said that we would get another one right away if something were to happen to either of our kids. But… Now that I’m going through everything I am with Flash I can’t even think about it.

We like to have two. One from the local basset rescue and one from a breeder. Between the three dogs we have I don’t have one healthy one in the pack. So health will be a very important factor for me.

I'm with McFreck's-- tho I met many, many dogs, there was not another basset hound in sight the first 3 months i got here. where are all the bassets hiding?

then i found all my virtual basset friends (ie. you guyz and galz!). took awhile to find out where/when the local bassets congregate, but i found 'em now. they are few and far between. well, i guess that means more attention for me! people always seem excited to see basset hounds...
I just went to Athletic pets to check up on appropriate attire for Woody Hayes to wear this fall..(proper Buckeye hat and jersey oh and a football too, should do nicely), but it shows a basset off to the side....they are very photogenic...makes me want to buy:D.

And Molly and Winston's mom....I know all about college kids..Woody's oldest brother is going into his senior year at Univ. of Cincinnati...it's a good thing you are in Pennsylvania or he may be one of them...HEHE:rolleyes:
Oh gosh we have a basset around the corner from us (a country block so I haven't walked down and visited)

and our old neighbors we ran into have an older rescued girl named Lucy...mom always stops and gives her extra belly rubs..

and my trainer (and Petco mgr Mandee) has 2 bassets and while I was there getting my degree:D we say a huge old basset named Tommy boy...(he looked every bit of 75-80lbs....he was gi-normous.....).

So I have lots of kissing cousins around......we is a special family...

I realize craigslist is not a good place to get any animal. But being an animal lover, I have to look! I oohhh and awe! over all the cute puppies. And kitties. And ferrets. The snakes and tarantulas I will pass on though!
We have a basset on the next street. His name is Friday and he's 15! His owner is an older lady so they don't do the whole walking around the block thing. I think he keeps to his nice fenced yard, so we never see him. I was walking past the house one day last fall with Molly and the lady invited me in so she and Friday could meet Molly. I hope Friday is still around...he was a handsome boy.
profiling? perhaps... but in forsters smith they have this storm anxiety remedy with a basset on it... pretty spot on for a lot of us.
Health should be right up there with temperment. Fortunately both Esa and Vinny usually never need anything other than the yearly stuff. Now that Vinny is getting older I expect somethings may come up,hopefully nothing drastic. I expect the puppies of this litter to be exceptionally healthy as well.Something can always happen but it shouldn't be from the sire and dam.

I am always annoyed that the picture on our bottle for cleaning up pet messes is a basset and the picture on the "weight management" food is a basset. They're not ALL like that... or maybe they are.

I am starting to be at a loss for what happens whenever we walk. I get stopped EVERY time by someone who knows or has had a basset. Yes, I get it. They are AWESOME. But at the same time, I find just as many people who have no clue what Fergus is... We don't see them very often where we are, but I'm happy to know that they make such a big impression.
