I know on the previous site we had a stash of often-brought-up topics like how to clean ears and clip nails and so forth. Where is it now? George is shaking his head a lot and scratching his ears and I remember a thread on how to make a cleaning solution at home (and how to reconcile a stubborn hound to letting his mommy clean his ears! ).

Try to clean his ears with a damp cloth first.
Maybe it's just earwax build up in the outer ear...

Thanks! I did try the wet washcloth and he seemed to like it, sort of did that basset grunting thing while I was working on it, and didn't even argue with me. We'll see if that helps, and if not, I'll try some of the other ideas.

And I looked and his ears aren't gunky and don't smell bad, they just seem to itch. So it looks like Steinar was right. I'll do the washcloth thing for a few days in a row.
