I've never owned a sweeter, more affectionate dog than Flash. He cuddles like a fiend and will often stop what he's doing, walk or run over, give me a kiss and then resume his activity. He's also a HUGE 'daddy's boy', preferring to be with me over almost anything else.

Are all bassets like that?

:D It's wonderful that Flash is a sweetheart. Mine are also total love bugs. I think it starts with genetics and how you raise them. My 2 lived with their breeder for the first year of their life. In her house every dog is socialized at a very early age, exposed to many different experiences and loved individually. When I was lucky enough to get them, they were well balanced, social, loving hounds. Basset owners are very lucky people:D

My girl so far is as sweet as can be. She's my first Basset (although my Dad has owned 3). I love her. She's a total cuddle bug even though she's only 12 weeks old.

Mattie is so a sweetheart also. She loves when she can lay her head on your shoulder and you give her a big hug.

It is nothing better then coming home from a long evening at work and coming in to a happy basset, swing her tail to greet you. With free kisses to give.

Our basset hound ,Lucy, was queen of our neighborhood! Everybody loved her and she loved everybody b/c she was so sweet. It would literally take us two hours to get a walk around the neighborhood because Lucy insisted on visiting every house where she knew there was someone who would say "hello". She wasn't looking for treats, just a pat on the head and a wag of her tail, then she'd be on her way to the next house! I used to take her to other parts of town to walk where she didn't know people so well, so that we could actually walk, but everywhere we went, she made friends. When she crossed the rainbow bridge last Oct. 09, the whole neighborhood was sad, people came to see us, sent cards and cried with us. It was amazing to see how much love one little hound dog shared with our town.

Flash sounds like Lucy's twin! He loves everyone he meets ( strangers are just friends you've not yet met, dontcha know? ), other dogs and kitties included! One neighbor of ours even jokes that Flash should run for mayor, saying that he'd win in a landslide.

When company would come to our house, we would tell people, don't sit on the couch unless you want a 50 pound dog on your lap, and then even if they sat in an individual chair, she'd find a way to get on the lap of her favorite visitor. When our kids had friends sleep over, she always slept with the newest friend! She was the best snuggler ever...............we are having a cold snowy winter in PA and I sure do miss having a real live bed warmer! Hopefully by next winter, we'll have another basset.

Funny.. I find Snickers to be the same way! She makes friends everywhere we go.. and walks take a long time as well, soon to be longer, once people start coming out of "hibernation" She has quite a few followers, I can't wait for them to see how she's grown! Such a lovable dog!
