Ok guys, I have a stupid question-what vac do you own/use and how well does it work on the short little basset fur that is EVERYWHERE????

I have an Eureka that is a few years old. I want a Dyson though, but hubby thinks that it is way too expensive for a vacuum lol. My eureka gets plugged up on the filter ALL the time from his short lil fur. It also kicks some stuff back out of it and doesn't pick up as good as it should (because it plugs up so fast!) I probably have to clear the filter out at least 3 times to just vacuum up one room and it still doesn't do a good job.

I have very short/flat carpet, if that makes a difference. So every little thing shows up on the floor and then I have this stupid thing that doesn't work!

My vac doesn't suck the basset fur up well at all and it's a Bissell. I have to go over most placed twice (even three times!) before all the fur is up.

according to Consumer Reports the Hoover WindTunnel T-series Rewind Bagless model UH70120 (or UH70110) scored higher than the $600 Dyson Animal and only costs $130.

The best rated vac was the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary or WindTunnel Turbo Anniversary edition bagged vac. Both are around $230. The Hoover Tempo rated higher than Dyson as well and is only $100.

I bought the hoover wind-tunnel awhile back. At that time it was only $98...Can't tell you how impressed I am with it...Told daughter-in-law & neighbor to get one and they both feel the same. Does a great job. Check on amazon...they were cheaper than stores in my area....free shipping.

I have a Dyson and I absolutely love it. It will pick up everything, and I've never had a clog (or any kind of problem). I've had it for a few years now and I just found out there is one filter you're supposed to clean. So mine has been impressing me for years, all the while with one of its filters gummed up. Before that I had the Hoover Wind Tunnel. There is no comparison.

I also have a dyson animale and could not live with out it. It picks up things that i cant believe is there. If it brakes down ill try that 130 $ one.

I have the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser upright. We have 4 cats and the 2 dogs...it works very well. It's got some serious power...it roars!

I'm a pretty lucky lady -- I have a Beam Central Vac -- so all I have to haul around is the hose -- I have 4 floors so I am pretty lucky -- But over the last 25 years I have blown 2 motors -- was it the pile of dog hair or the fact the motor is in the garage and it is -40 degrees at times ?? I can tell you though I really only have a hair problem on the bed -- our quilt is washed and put in the dryer weekly -- not much colour left from so many washings -- our bedroom will never look like one in a magazine so when company arrives we just shut the door. The funny thing about the central vac canister -- someone told us years ago that dog and cat hair was compostible -- so we did for years way way back in the woods in our yard. When we finally decided to empty the thing since my hubby built it way too large -- the composter that is -- we could see years and years of hair from all our past buddies -- in layers in this composter -- it never did break down -- now that I'm writing about this it seems pretty gross!! Yuck!

I would love to get rid of this carpeting-it is only one room in the whole house! But we need to redo our hardwood floors first, they are thin, stained up and warping They weren't ever taken care of before we moved in.


Speaking of flooring-what kind would any of you recommend that will hold up to doggy claws? Laminate, tile, etc...we don't want real wood floors again, too much work. Yes, I am lazy darn it!

We have a washable Navajo blanket on the floor where the dogs eat treats, flop on and wrestle upon.

We have the Dyson Animal which has worked great. We no longer have any carpeting, so don't pull it out often. My husband recently picked up a Roomba, and it works pretty darn well! Amazing little robot. It is louder than I'd like, so we run it when we are leaving or busy around the house. Not great if you are watching TV, though. Of course there is the noise of 2 Bassets trying to scare it away...

I have a Shark Navigator, and it's great on the pet fur (I have two cats in addition to one Basset.) When shopping for a vacuum, I read a bunch of reviews on Amazon, and it seems that people like this one as much as the Dyson, but it costs about half as much.

I don't have any carpets, just hardwood floors with area rugs in some rooms. This vacuum has a setting for the bare floor, so I can pick up all the fur from the wood floors without using a scratchy broom. I also don't have to deal with the floating fur I always had when using a broom or dust mop. It also has really nice attachments for getting the hair off the furniture.

It is lightweight and easy to maneuver around the house. It comes apart so you don't have to drag the whole thing along when doing stairs (the only carpeting we have is on the stairs.) I have had it for about 6 months now and it has worked great.

I our household we have 5 cats and 4 basset hounds. So as you can imagine we have LOTS of hair. We just recent bought a Hoover T series Windtunnel PAWS vacuum Hoover T-Series WindTunnel P.A.W.S. Pet Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum and it works great so far. Our vac has rubber blades on the the beater bar (along with brushes) and it picks on the animal hair tumbleweeds in our house without any problems. The power brush attachment doesn't work as well as I'd like it but overall it's a good value for around $200. Now if only animal hair was worth it's weight in gold I could give Bill Gates a run for his money!
