We moved from FL to CA the week after hurricane Katrina hit and it was VERY difficult finding pet friendly hotels even using AAA's book on the subject.

The reason being, is that most of the pet friendly hotels online as well as in that book only took dogs under 20 pounds. Then we found a bunch of hotels which tooks pets of all sizes but we had problems because most of those hotels were already booked from Katrina people. Some of the hotels we used were great in some cities and other hotels we used....well, I was scared that we'd get robbed or mugged or whatever even in our locked room!

We emptied our entire car every night including the thing on the roof and most of the time we had to carry everything (including Ruby) up and down steep stairs; massive trips. Wasn't fun using any stretch of the imagination.
