I haven't been around the forums lately and I felt bad for not being here so I wanted to give y'all some updates on the devious and often inappropriate little Whiskey.

When we first brought her home, she was so teeny tiny.

She was barely four months old in that picture.

At five months she fit snuggly onto our new couch.

At six months she overflows.

She has offically resigned to sleeping in her crate, despite the fact that she still doesn't like it much. She barks in the morning to be let out, and she's doing very well with the puppy pads. Unfortunately she still has new bad habits that we're struggling to break. Counter surfing and eating her own poop (GAG!). Anytime she eats her poop, I brush her teeth with a warm water (and a small bit of baking soda) and she sits pretty well for this which is a first for any of our dogs. I've figured out how to clean her ears. I put down a bowl of water and when she's distracted, I'm able to wipe them out. Any other time, she outright refuses! She loves going on walks now, but hates going on car rides (which is another first for dogs). Next week we are buying her a life jacket and going to Grandma's house to see if she likes swimming.

She has become a very courteous watch dog.

And then of course . . . . she's still a basset so there are moments like this:

My little Whiskey is so big is breaks my heart. She'll turn 7 months next week!!!!

Aww! I know how you feel. Virga recently got switched over from puppy to adult food. She's almost not a puppy anymore! And Whiskey got big! Virga was teeny tiny when we got her and she's still pretty small compared to other bassets on here.

They make enzymatic tooth paste specifical for dog which should do a better job and in flavors most dogs like.
I'll probably eventually get that once she's through this stage. Right now it's mostly just to get rid of the smell!

You don't suppose she is eating the poop just to get the extra attention that comes with getting her teeth brushed.
I wish it was that simple. No, I only just recently started doing that this last week. She's been eating poop for at least a month, maybe more. We've tried homemade stuff, the pills you get from the vet, everything. We think it's just a bad habit that we're not doing a good job at helping her break. Hopefully we'll all get better at it.

I was told by someone at a natural pet foods store that if you put a little bit of pineapple juice in their food it cuts back on the poop-eating.
Yeah we tried this. She loves pineapple juice . . . and poop. LOL!

She is so beautiful. And so loving. And so silly.

Yup, just had a talk w/Worm yesterday, that there will be no more naps on the couch together. There's just not enough room for both of us to be comfy. any more naps will have to be taken on the bed IN THE bedroom...

glad to hear the update on Whiskey (Worm was going to be named after hard liquor too... Bourbon). esp like the pic of her peeking out of the vertical blinds. what a character!
