Poor Noonie has been battling terrible ear infections for almost a year now. We have went to numerous vets and tried everything short of surgery. My husband tells me that he is taking him in next week for surgery. The vet said he'll have some hearing loss. But as long as he's better I guess it's worth it. I'll be home in a couple of weeks and hopefully by then he'll be fully recovered. I can't help but be a little worried though.

Poor guy. What exactly is the surgery?? Maggie Mae has been deaf for 2 years now. She adjusted fine to her hearing loss. I'm grateful that she still has her vision. That would be so much harder to deal with. My Husband still forgets that she can't hear and calls to her. I hope Noonie will finally feel better. I'll keep him in my thoughts and special prayers.

I don't want to sound discouraging, but I had a basset for 14 years, who had all kinds of ear infections. He had the surgery, and it did not help. I felt bad that we had put him through so much for nothing.
We had him when I was young, and I am convinced it was his diet. we fed him just about anything he wanted. Who knew back then?
Since then I have had three more bassets, and I find when they are fed ONLY a dog food that works for them (trial and error), and NOTHING ELSE, they virtually have no ear odor or infections.
This was just my own experience, and maybe you have already tried every diet in the book, and nothing works.
Perhaps someone else whose hound has had the surgery will post their opinion, as to what to expect, and if it was successful... good luck, and keep us posted.

Sandy :)

Slinging drool far & wide for Noonie.

P.S. Where are you if you'll "be back in a couple of weeks"?
