So, I know there are always threads out there that share silly things bassets do, but I just thought I would start up another one. I love getting to hear others stories about their basset's quirks! (good quirks:))

Charlie has a few. Occasionally she will take one of her chew toys over to something she shouldn't be chewing on and will chew the toy right next to, say, either a backpack on the ground, or some shoes. You will look at her and she'll just be chewing her toy, but next thing you know, she is secretly chewing on either the shoe or bag!

So, since Charlie was a puppy, she usually gets a piece of a treat when she comes in from going outside. We used to keep the treats on top of a counter. Anyway, we kind of phased out of that. Then, I kind of rearranged things and got this cute treat container to put all Charlie's treats in. I decided to keep this container on a side table near our couch. Well, Charlie realized what it was (obviously..) and started to just wait by the treat jar every time she came inside. So we started to just give her little pieces of treats again because she would sometimes wait there for a good 15 minutes before we realized we hadn't given her the treat! The thing is.. she is super patient about it and has yet to bark at the treat jar to let us know we forgot to reward her! It's the cutest thing.. but also sad when you realize she has been there for over a half hour!

Charlie loves fruits and veggies. Every time I make dinner or lunches she sits there, (also very very patient, no barking) and just watches/waits for me to drop something. I think she is so patient because she knows I will give her something. (I usually give her an apple core.. tops of strawberries, ends of green beans, etc.. I would be throwing it out anyway! She just disposes of it for me:)) She is just so patient about it and it is healthy food so I just have to give in!

The one thing our pair does that always gets me is. Shortly after eating something messy, they will clean each others faces, then if Zatarra yawns, or opens his mouth at all, Mercedes will shove her whole nose in his mouth to see if he has actually swallowed everything. I've tried to get a picture or a video, but haven't been able to yet.

Layla is a really messy drinker. She sticks her whole face in the water bucket while she drinks, and when she pulls her head out of course all the water comes running out of her mouth in big streams onto the floor. We usually keep a towel nearby, but sometimes Rosco runs over and licks the water off her face after she's done.

Lollypop will also trail around a few quarts after tanking up. So many folds and wrinkles to drain. I'm seriously considering the towel thing as well. My favorite thing Lollypop does is the way she hangs her head in the morning when I come in to take her out of her crate before breakfast. She is still really sleepy and her head apparently weighs a few hundred tons....... it is ALL hanging down. Her little tail will thump and it is all she can do to stay upright. We call this the "Tom Dooley" look.

Of course the other thing that slays me is when she cocks her head from side to side when she is spoken to. She is trying SO HARD to understand! Would I spoke fluent Basset.

Anabelle has discovered that at nighttime, another dog appears in the window (her reflection) and when that dog startles her she has a barking match with it. I was laughing so hard Sunday night I was in tears.

I think she's always been too short for mirrors and windows elsewhere but we have really short windows so it's a new thing for her :p

I also love to watch bassets (or any dog really) dream. You have to wonder what they're chasing and barking at. Anabelle howls at full volume in her sleep sometimes. I have no idea how she doesn't wake herself up.

I have been smiling at my hound all day long.. She does funny stuff all day.. But I dog sit a puppy during (the puppy is 14 weeks old and she is a puggle). Well today.. The puggle and mattie started chasing each other.. The puggle is faster then mattie and can lap mattie in seconds, but mattie keeps running and barking after her. I just had to laugh and smile watching those two. Don't worry nap time came early today!! LOL!!

I am all to familiar with Charlie Sue's story....This weekend, my husband bought Snickers a new bone, and when I woke up from a brief nap on Sat afternoon, I had discovered that she had the bone next to the box fan we had sitting on the floor...and then I discovered she had chewed the plug off the end (it was unplugged) lets just say, the you know what hit the fan, and a certain little lady got into a bit of trouble (a nice little time out! But that didn't come without an attitude, she's so darn sassy) I also discovered this morning she chewed the plug off of my hairdryer....don't know where the bratty, destructive and unsafe, behavior came from....well yes I do, she's suffering from cabin fever, it's been way too hot to hit the dog park, and I think she misses her friends! Just another thing to make me throw my hands in the air!

Vinny has always been a happy boy but after he eats he has a joy dance that includes rolling onto his back twisting back and forth while kicking out both rear legs at the same time. Our daughter has a bulldog/pit/ mix named Angel. Angel likes to carry Esa's ear in her mouth when they greet each other. Such funny dogs, what would we do without them. They live to make us smile.

Our dogs go through a lot of jealous bouts in any given day. There are two things that usually spawn jealousy: attention from a person and a new toy or chew bone. The dogs have even taken it to the level of subterfuge and trickery. If one of them has a bone that the other one wants the bone-less dog will come over to a person and look cute. The person gives them attention, which makes the bone-bearing dog drop his or her bone and come running over to get some of the attention as well. The bone-less dog will immediately stop with the attention-getting to run over and grab the discarded bone, leaving the formerly boned dog looking stunned and upset.

This happens a lot.

I love it most when Gwenny sleeps. LOL. Ok just kidding. She does this thing where she runs around the yard throwing and catching the ball all on her own. It is hilarious! I also like when she wants to lay with me on the couch in the evening. Usually she likes to sleep by herself. These stories are just too cute!!!

Lightning is very quirky, but the thing that absolutely melts my heart isn't anything crazy--it's when he wags his tail in his sleep. I like to think that it's because he's happy, and maybe thinking of me (but probably thinking of a big bowl of food).

Maggie LOVES to play chase with our Savannah Cat, Othello. :wub:They will play and romp all over the house! She will chase him up the carpeted "cat tree" and then lay down on the rug in front of it and look up at him as if to say "Come back down please and play". She also loves to lay on the couch while we are watching TV and sleep on her back. Sometimes she runs or kicks in her sleep and its adorable!

Also, Maggie has a special way to "signal" to us that she has to go outside to poo-poo......she farts! It's soooo rank, you know she needs to go outside!
Whats funny, is one night she was sleeping under a blanket and she farted and I lifted it up to see if she pooped herself (it was THAT bad), and I get the "Maggie Reverse Dutch Oven Special"! Not fun! But, its what Bassets do!

Gus is one naughty puppy!!
He is a messy drinker and the naughty part comes after he drinks.
With all that slobber and drool, he pranced his butt and come to my bedroom and lay just his head on the side of my bed. He did this regularly now too. He had a certain walk when he had this in mind. He wag his tail and his butt.. and trot his way. I knew it in an instant now if he walk that way, he is going to wipe his drool on my bed. So, I usually catch him and wipe him with a towel.. and of course, he hated it. Hahahaha

Another thing he does is when he's around women... yup... he is quite fond of girls. He would turned into this sweet and spoiled little boy whenever he's around girls (especially around my girlfriend). Idk what is going on there..
at one time, I walked him around neighborhood.. and from a far there are 4 ladies jogging toward us. He immediately stop and lay down on the grass. No matter how I coaxed him he wouldn't move.. So, one of the lady asked me.. "awww, is he waiting for us?"

and of course, he rolled over and all the women pet his stomach.
afterward, then he decided to walk with me again..:eek:

Gus like his food so much.. but, in the house, there is an older dog (his name is Mochi). Mochi is quite stern. So, he often disciplined Gus when he annoyed him too over. :). One time, I gave Gus a treat bone.. as he chews, he decided to go drink and left the bone. Obviously Mochi found it and started chewing on it.

Gus found out later that his bone disappear. So, he sat down and waited for a while. But, after a half an hour, Gus knew that the old dog isn't going to give him back his bone.
so, Gus approached me, cried, grabbed the corner of my jeans by his mouth, and took me to where Mochi was at to show what Mochi had done to his bone.
I said, "ok ok..." so, I gave Gus another bone..

Every day! Fergus will pull his bone over to our chairs that have low rungs and munch away... until I notice that his bone has been kicked aside and he's flat out on his belly with the chair in his mouth. Also shoes. Also sweaters.

He's so adorable, though, that we can't stay mad for too long. One thing that cracks us up every time is when we fill his outside water dish. He will gently dump it over and get a good grip on it and run around the yard with his prize half over his head. The best part is when he bumps into other stuff because he's watching us out of the corner of his eye to see what we'll do.

Gwenny gets the floor soaked as well. It is so funny when she looks up from drinking and there is tons of water dripping from her face. She also carries her water bowl around trying not to spill it but usually does when she tries to lay it back down. She is such a great dog!!!!
