Does anyone's hound dogs lick each others ears ? Lucy sticks her nose as far down Ethel's ear as she can and then just goes to town and licks and licks and licks. I think Ethel has the cleanest ears in town. I'm not sure but I think I saw Lucy's tongue come out the other ear yesterday LOL.

Toby used to do that to his friend Elmo all the time
Mocha and Beldin clean each others ears all the time... Beldin does a better job of Mocha's than Mocha does of Beldin's ... but he keeps her's pretty clean! lol
I have a friend who has a brother/sister pair of bassets (Thor & Persephone....they're too cute...I need to get her on here!) & they clean each other's ears.

Gracie (our Lab) absolutely loves to clean Huck's ears. And his jowls, and his paws. Very submissive to the Grand PooPah she is. Of course, after he eats, she could just be considering it dessert too.
Alfie cleans Barneys ears all the time but Barney doesn't do Alfies. Maybe cos hes younger?

I'm wondering if anyone knows what to use to clean a Basset's ears? I read somewhere that you can mix a solution of vinegar (I think). I can't find the mixture and I've run out of the cleanser from the vet. I'm wanting to try the home remedy before I buy more.

We use Oticalm on our girl's ears. It has worked very well so we have stuck with it. Am interested in hearing of homemade ear cleaners though.

Diana,The solution you are thinking of is equal parts lukewarm white vinegar&distilled water.`You gently flush the ear with it let him shake and then use cotton wool balls to press inside the ear and dry it up`(once or twice per week). It is good for bassets because of the humid conditions inside the ear. I tend to use unscented babywipes to clean Toby's ears.I wrap it round my finger and gently clean as far as I can go.So far he's never had a problem with ears.
My first impression, Yuucckkkkkk!!!
:D :D
But then I think of that clean ears...oh well.

Cinny and Molly clean each others ears all the time. I think this has really made a difference with Molly anyway. She never has had ear problems or odor.
