I've not been a frequent visitor lately & I know there are lots of new "faces" here, but I thought some of the "old" timers might be interested to know that Spencer joined Sadie at the Rainbow Bridge yesterday, 8/19/10. In early July, I noticed a small bump on the top of his head. Long story short, it turned out to be cancer. By the time it was diagnosed, it had already gone through his skull bone & entered the sinus below. Even though the tumor grew rapidly, Spencer didn't seem to know it was there & continued on happily. This past Sunday he started to show the first signs of discomfort & it was obvious his vision was being affected. So, as with Sadie, the vet came to my house to send him to the Bridge. In true Spencer fashion, he was a happy boy up to his last day, even wagging his tail at the vet & technician. I kept telling Spencer he was going to see Sadie, and I like to think she welcomed her little brother. After Sadie died, I planted a flower bush in my backyard in her memory. This particular bush is a heavy bloomer in early to mid summer. For the last few weeks, it's not had more than 3 flowers on it. This morning when I looked out the window, the bush was in full bloom, which is really unusual at this time of the summer for this type of bush. It was as if Sadie was happy & telling me her brother arrived safely.

Here's a picture of my boy, just a few weeks before the tumor appeared.

I am so sorry to read this. You know, I've always loved your Spencer. The videos of him with the tomatoes in the backyard. He always looked like he was smiling to me. I have tears in my eyes as I'm typing this. He was lucky to be so loved by you. Now he is at the bridge sniffing every blade of grass he can. RIP Spencer.

Oh, I'm heartbroken! Spencer has always been one of my favorites. Always smiling and looking so happy. I'd even hoped that since we didn't live too far from each other our boys could meet. I wish there was something I could say to make it better, but I know there isn't. This is a terrible loss. But imagining him and Sadie together is wonderful.

Amy, I'm so sorry to hear about Spencer. He was also one of my favorites. . .always such a happy, sweet boy; such a character with a unique outlook on life! I always loved your posts about Spencer's antics. He was the quintessential Basset and I'm sure his passing has left a huge hole in your heart. I hope it helps a little to know that all of us who only knew your wonderful boy from your posts also feel a bit like we've lost "our" Spencer, too.

I've been out of town, so I just read about Spencer's passing. So sorry for your loss...I join others on here when I say that he was one that could always make me smile. From hearing about his antics to seeing that wonderful happy go lucky smile of his. Glad to know he's with his sister now, but sending warm thoughts your way during this difficult time.

I am so sorry. There are never any words that can comfort us as we go through those times. I lost my Benny in March. I still cry everyday and I still sleep with his bandanna. I miss him terribly. I am sure your babies are happily playing together.
