It seems to be a lot of first time basset puppy owners here lately.
It's a very wise thing to ask questions here at the forum, there's
a lot of experience out here among all the 1000's of oldtimers.
But I would recommend you to take a look at some web-sites before
you choose breed, breeder - or if that's too late, at least prepare yourself
the best you can.
This board is a part of a very good basset web site, the CyberHound.
I especially recommend Eva S. Balogh's two articles on the early history of the basset,
and about pedigrees and computers. I have all her pedigrees and many more, I may
find your basset's pedigree back to the breed's origin.
The homepage starts here:
http://www.heatherweb.com/cyberhound/core.html
The Basset Hound Club of America also have a lot of good information, you can start here:
http://www.basset-bhca.org/Finding/Discover1.htm
Finally, American Kennel Club has much stuff about buying and bringing a puppy home,
and puppy proofing your place:
http://www.akc.org/future_dog_owner/about_buying_a_dog.cfm
You can find a lot of other information on the net, but be aware; It's no guarantee for a thing is
correct, even though someone has made a webpage, go for the reputable sources.
