hi my sam the man was used to me working at night and having doggy doors. I had to move and am home with him now. He does not have a doggy door at this time. he is going to bed at 9 waking up at 2 am and 530 and 630. does any one have a suggestion on how to get him to remember how to sleep during the night? boy can he do it during the day!

I would say your best bet is to tire him out before he decides to go to sleep. Around 9pm, when he's ready to go to sleep, take him for a walk, play with him, etc. Also, if he goes to bed at 9, but you dont go to bed until later, right before you are ready for bed, take him out or play then again. That should tire him out pretty well, and at least skip the 2am pit stop. Also, my Bogie sometimes gets up in the middle of the night, but it is only to find a new place to sleep. If your dog is waking up in the middle of the night, it may not be to go out.

Your Sam is gorgeous!!! That's a great pic!

Yep, a tired basset is a good basset. Mine have a very hard time with any type of change in their routine. He'll evenutally get used to it, but may make you suffer in the meantime!

Give him a belly rub from me.

Sam looks so much like a dog I had growing up. He's so cute! At his age, he should be able to hold it all night. I agree with the other responses--wear him out before your bedtime, then ignore him til morning. Eventually he'll get it.
