Hey. Some advice, please.. George is 3 and a half months old. I know bassets tend to be on the lazier side, but this guy is a pup and literally he sleeps 18 hours out of the day... is this normal??

An animal will often sleep when nothing
special is going on, to preserve energy.
But it sounds a bit strange with a puppy,
Emma was very awake.....

I think puppies are like babies. If there's action they're right in the middle of it but otherwise they sleep. If he seems dopey and lethargic when awake though, I'd take him to the vet.

My puppies also seemed to sleep most of the time.
I mostly remember that it was peeing and sleeping, and me
waiting for my new friend to wake up so that I could cuddle
him. And keep in mind that if he has a lot of new experiences
this will tire him and make him need to sleep more, even if he
has not been active in the physical sense.

I think puppies sleep more. OK as long as puppy is eating. looks & acts normal. Maybe wake up once in awhile to walk around yard or give here a toy to play with.
