Just talked to the vets. Apparently the skin tag on Winston's chest was a mass cell tumor. It is grade 2. It means there is a small chance it will come back or spread. I read thru some stuff about this earlier today.

It totally broke my heart but the vets told me the biopsy result looks pretty good but they need to do another incision soon to get a wider margin of his skin, just to make sure.

But he is doing fine now, crazy like usual, no changing in appetite, looks and acts normal.

Keep your fingers cross everyone. Winston needs it. Thank you.

Our best wishes to you and Winston for a good outcome. Your vet sounds optimistic... that's encoraging news! Give Winston a hug from me and Moe. Give yourself one, too!

Sorry to hear that Winston's skin tag turned out to be more than you expected. Grade I and II mast cell tumors usually don't reoccur if there are clean margins of 3-5 cm so that's why your vet wants to remove more of the surrounding tissue. I had a dog with a mast cell tumor on his tail and they had to amputate almost all the tail to insure there would be clean margins.

One thing about mast cell tumors is they can look like the common benign cysts that bassets often get. We really have to biopsy every skin lump to be sure.

Keep us posted. Sending good thoughts your way.
