The Cherokee County Council will hold a emergency meeting this Thursday, April 24th regarding the recent allegations that the shelter utilizes intracardial injection, also known as "heartstick" as the shelters main form of euthanasia.

This cruel practice has been outlawed in South Carolina and most other states through the U.S. and is not considered an acceptable form of euthanasia except in very limited circumstances, and only if animals are sedated first.

Here's the information about the emergency county council meeting:

When: Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Where: Cherokee County Administration Building located at 210 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC

For more information about the allegations made at the last county council meeting, see: http://www.wspa.com/midatlantic/spa/news.a...04-21-0034.html.

Additional information is available here: http://www.goupstate.com/article/20080423/...43&tc=yahoo

Please inform your friends, neighbors and others who might want to attend, too. For those of you that cannot attend today's meeting, stay tuned for an update!

Thanks for caring about the animals in your community!

Why do shelters use this method when there are clearly other methods that can be used? This really makes me sick! Bad enough that so many dogs are put to sleep every year but then to kill them in such a way is truly awful!
