Had to take Ruby to the emergency vet at 1:15 a.m. as she started showing signs of a UTI at 11:30 p.m. She even has a "sick" smell. Not the usual bassety need-a-bath odor.

Ruby's daddy had to drive us, poor guy, because I don't drive at night; can't see at night. He was sleeping in the car while I was in the vet with Ruby. She got antibiotics and a hefty bill.

She and I have been outside for her "trying" to pee in 48 degree weather from 2 a.m. to present; every 1-5 minutes.

Back outside....poor baby Ruby. The pills had better start working soon....she's beyond miserable (and I'm not feeling so terrific either).

Ruby and I keep going outside for her to pee. She's been drinking a lot of water and some of it is coming out. Fortunately it's a whole lot warmer out now so I'm not bundled up to the max. However, she's still very uncomfortable and exhausted....we're in the house now, but she'll be panting and crying in a few minutes to go outside.

I did call the vet to ask when the clavamox would really take...and she'd start feeling better. (I had forgotten to ask in the middle of the night). I was told that by 48 hours she should be feeling a whole lot better even tho we have 14 days of pills. It's only been 9 hours so we have a looooong way to go.

I'm about ready to fall over tho and I have a migraine. Ruby's daddy will probably leave work early to relieve me of Ruby duty so I can get some sleep. It looks like I'll be up all night again tonight too. I have a doc appt tomorrow a.m. which I cannot cancel and hubby does too. So Ruby has to be feeling at least somewhat okay for about 2 hours tomorrow....Or I'll come home to a very stressed out and sick baby.

Even tho it's early in the week, I'm pretty worried. We have a lot planned for the weekend and it's okay if we have to cancel. But I really am worried about Ruby. She's crying now so off we go outside.

Please continue sending healing slobber and drool...she needs it.

Don't they have a doggie version of those pills people can take to relieve the discomfort until the antibiotics kick in? The pills that make you pee orange? I know they're sold over the counter, but also that they can cause kidney damage, so I wouldn't give one to a dog without talking to a vet first. But there's got to be some way of relieving her discomfort. Poor Ruby. And poor you. I hope she's feeling better very soon.

Oh no, poor Ruby!! UTI's are awful. Sally has had one twice - both when she was on steroids for something else. The steroids suppress the immune system. The clavamox will kick in soon, hang in there! Sending drool for Ruby and you, too. :(

Funny you mention the pyridium (OTC)...I was thinking about that too. I don't even like to take it any more because of how bad it is on human livers.

She's sleeping right now (thank ALL the Gods!) so I'm hoping she gets to feeling better soon. Ruby's daddy and I have black bags under our eyes and we're hoping all 3 of us can sleep tonight.

Will keep you all posted. Thanx for all the healing drool being flung far and wide. We need it.
