My 5 year old Basset growls at my husband when the comes to bed at night. How can I stop that behavior. I work remotely so the dog is home all day with me and stays by my side all day long. My husband is affectionate to him, however the growling continues each night. He doesnt growl at him any other time just when my husband comes into the bedroom at night. note the dog is not allowed in our bed, he lays on the floor on my side of the bed.

severely doubt the resource he is quarding is you rather than his sleeping spot at night. 1. why does he feel the need to guard only that spot at that time.? something happen in the past. ie husband trip over the dog etc. 1. a nightlight might eliminate the dogs fear. 2. change the association of the husband in that situation by having him throw the dog a cookie before entering the room, 3. find the dog a new night time sleeping spot that is more secure., a crate beside the bed might server this purpose., or a spot outside the bedroom,.
