My 7 month old "Boozer" has really red eyes. This last fall his eyes swelled up almost shut I took him to our vet and they gave him cream and a little pill to take every day. Well the swelling went down ,but he still has on the bottom of his eyes very red extra something It seems to get worst when its hot out. Our vet never seen it before, discussed it with other vets and no luck.If they swell shut again it one pill a day. know it cold out here and he seems to do fine. Any ideas on this.To take him to the cities would be very costly.I'll try to find a good picture of them.

Bassets are supposed to have prominent haws; could this be what you're describing at the bottom of his eyes? The haw is usually a pink rim of tissue along the bottom of the eye, and it can sometimes have brown pigment in some areas. It's a portion of the third eyelid.

Because bassets are prone to several types of eye problems, it would probably be worth a trip to a specialist if Boozer's problems recur, especially if your current vet isn't sure what the problem is or what's causing it.

I sure agree with Betty about getting this closely checked out!

One of mine gets red hews (more than normal) and his eyes water and he rubs them. We did a through check on him. He has allergies that sometimes affect his eyes.

I hope that's all that is wrong with your basset.
