Hey all... im new here and well I have a question. My basset Henry recently got pushed by our other basset and fell, he is only 10 months old. I took him to the emergency vet because he had previously been limping from growing pains, and it seems that this fall increased his pain. Well the vet thinks he fractured his elbow, and from the xrays it is almost invisable. She decided that the only way to fix it was by surgery. The Radiologist is taking a look at the xrays today to decide the final verdict. I was wondering if surgery is normal for a fracture or if it is a drastic decision. I realize that people are different from dogs but i thought that surgery was only needed on extremely bad fractures or breaks.

Thanks in advance!

Basset bone structure is different --get a second opinion -- if possible from a specialist or a vet familiar with bassets
