We have a 14 week Basset hound pup and in the last week she has been coughing every morning when she wakes up. It's only when she first wakes up, is this kennel cough or allergies? She's fine after she start moving around and drinks water and has her breakfast. Any ideas, comments or suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance. 😊👍🏼🐾❤

allergies in dogs is usually manfested with runny eye, and itchy shin not a cough, Kennel cough would be all the timer no just the morning. Perhaps a reverse sneeze if a puppy

Kennel Cough tends to be more apparent when the animal is active - leaping around. Not to say this isn't what's going on.

I had one who I thought had developed this - turned out he had to have his tonsils out. Yes, really.

I'd suggest you speak to your vet which you may have to do by phone if your vet isn't open at the moment (C-19). I'd not immediately go to allergies. If it is KC, you shouldn't go into the vet's waiting area in any case as it's highly contageous and you'll empty the area fast if youi have a coughing dog in there!!
