Well I haven't been on the forum for a while and boy did I miss a lot but i've been pretty busy with family and PUPPIES!!! It's been a long two months and the past 30 hours has been tiresome but Delilah is finally whelping her litter. I've never owned a dog who had puppies before. When I was young I was a cat person but those days are gone forever. I am a true blue basset lover. Anyway, so far, so good with the delivery. She's given birth to five pups so far. The poor girl was so tired she finally took a 30 minute rest period but she's once again sitting up and licking herself.

I already have three great families lined up to adopt three of the cuties(carefully screened of course). Her are some pics that I have so far:

It looks like all is well! Five wonderful puppies just as cute as can be. Both mom and puppies are doing great. So with that said, let me introduce puppy 1, puppy 2, puppy 3, puppy 4, and puppy 5.(haven't thought of any names yet but any ideas are greatly appreciated)

The bottles are filled with warm/hot water and there is a heating pad under the towel set on low. This is where I kept the pups at a nice and warm 85F while the mother gave birth to the others.

Oh my goodness, I've never seen such tiny puppies before. They surely are beautiful. My husband will be very happy that you are so far away from us. He he would be worried about coming home and finding one in our living room if you were closer.

:( Knowing that many members are not supportive of casual breeding, I would simply ask that criticism and responses to criticism not include personal attacks. Thanks in advance.

OMG, I just loked at where you are. You are in Cloverdale... I'm in Pendleton. They are even cuter now that there are 5 AND they are hoosiers! I am glad all went well! yvonne

Point well taken and if I have or do offend anyone on the forum I am deeply sorry. For me, this is a once in a lifetime experience and I take responsibility very seriously. The reason I chose to breed her is because I wanted to raise a basset hound from a newborn stage and that I wanted a basset around to take Sampson's place when he is gone, which will probably be in a few years but I don't want to think about that right now cause it just breaks my heart. As for the other basset puppies, I have screened three great adoptive families to take them. I definitely plan to have Delilah spayed before her next heat cycle cause it is the humane thing to do.

Again, if I have offended anyone, I apologize.

I picked Francis out at 4 weeks and I thought THAT was tiny! (Brought him home at 8 weeks) They are so sweet and precious looking. As a Bostonian I figure any state that brought us Larry Byrd has got to do a good job at breeding!

So cute and so tiny! I look at my grown bassets and it's hard to imagine them that small!!

I envy you being able to watch them grow! Enjoy them while they are small.

I'd love to have one but I'm afraid George would never forgive me, to say nothing of his daddy. :D They are darling, though. I understand totally about wanting to have one for when Sampson leaves -- that's the way I felt about my pit bull, Daisy. I adored her and she adored me and we wanted to keep a dog from her bloodline forever, but her daughter wouldn't cooperate, as sweet and accommodating as she was in every other way. Have you chosen the one you're keeping yet?

It sounds like you are taking this very seriously, thank you!

I LOVE the black and white ones!! Too too too cute!!! It's a good thing I live far, far away from you, or Agnes & Lucille would have a little sister or brother!!!!!
