I posted a thread earlier about possibly adopting another hound, but we haven't heard back on him in awhile and aren't really pursuing it much more (he's in a foster home; there are other dogs who aren't as well cared for). We were basically just waiting to see what happens with job searches, adoption applications, sun and starts aligning, that sort of thing.

So I was walking Rosco and Layla this evening and the UPS guys comes wheeling up next to us. He wanted to know if I wanted another basset hound. His hound (Breezy) is not getting the attention she deserves, was a gift for his daughter, she isn't taking care of her, and he's thinking about getting rid of her. I told him to call me if they got to the point where they were going to give her up and we'd take her.

Of course as soon as I got home and told my wife the plans quickly changed from him calling us to us calling him. I'm waiting to hear back from the guy; once we do we're going to go see how she interacts with our 2 dogs. After that it will probably be a hound threesome.

Which is okay, because I secretly have been wanting to sleep on the couch all along.

Good luck, hope it all works out. I would love another one, but my boy Gibbs is kinda grumpy so don't think he'd like it too much.

So we heard more from Breezy's owner. She has not been fixed yet; they were considering breeding her at one point but have not done so. She is currently in heat so one thing we would need to do is get her fixed. Hopefully I can find a local shelter or humane society group that will defray the cost somewhat. I was wondering what people's experiences had been bringing a dog that was in heat home in a house with other dogs.

Hey... I would put it off if you can... dogs temprament can change when they are in heat.
My dog hated her best friend when she was in heat and vice versa, but afterwards they were back to normal.
In my opinion introducing dogs to eachother when one is in heat is not a good idea.
