I just rescued another basset... Her name is Beatrice and other is named Wiggiman. I love watching them play and run around. Is it normal when they growl and fight over toys. One steals a toy and plays keep away with it. They bite each others ears and legs. It looks like sumo wrestling. It is just like watching two children. How do I know when it is too aggressive. They do bite but without biting down. When I feel they are getting too rough, I break it up...(without punishing) any similar experiences?

That sounds pretty normal, as long as it's soft biting. My new rescue had to be taught to play fairly. She had apparently played a little rough before coming to us. They roll around, sort of play-bite around each other's ears and front areas. They play-growl and it's more gargle-sounding than growling. It's very clear to me when it's playing nice ...and when it can go in a wrong direction. That might happen now and then but just watch them. I stay close by when they are in a play session, if possible.

Of course, I often come home to find the rugs displaced and some furniture bumped out of place so I know they play when I'm not around. :D Just keep an eye on the new one and teach him/her the rules.

Congratulations on rescuing a Basset! It's a wonderful thing to do.

thanks
At times I feel she's getting a bit too rough but as soon as I say something, she knows right away. It is sort of like she knows and looks at me as if saying, "ok, you're right.. I'll stop..
She is good like like that.

Around here, if there isn't any growling and fighting, something is wrong. They ARE like watching kids, when they're quiet, they must be up to something, <_< and they generally are. (My mom always said that about us)

Speaking of that, it's been really quiet here for the last few minutes, I better go see what's up.

This is what it's like around my place.
