Hi My name is Amanda, I have a male basset hound Named Leroy hes 5 months old.
I have aqucik question about his leg. About 1 month ago I noticed his Right front leg. When he walks { and not all the time, and NOT when he runs} I see it almost poppinng out of place. Hes in no pain and is fine with it. But its what would be the equicilient of his wrist on his leg thats popping in and out. I have had him checked by the vet and they want to have him see a specialist. But the only problem is that they see the issue when he walks, but not in his x-rays. They said they surgery is 3k. OMG that is so high, and there is no guarantee that the surgery will even correct this problem. So right now we are at a loss of what to do.
Any suggestions? Or anyone else with a Basset with the same issue?

Thanks
amanda & Leroy

It sounds like knuckling. This happens because the wrist (pastern) is sort of double jointed. It's a disqualification in the conformation ring. I have a knuckled basset that's 15 years old, and she hasn't experienced any problems due to it.

Thanks soooo much. I took him to see the vet and like I said they cant see it in his x-rays only when he walks. But Like you said hes in no pain. yet they are so set on him having to have surgery, but then they say in the long run it may come back. They want 3k for this surgery. That is just too much. I just dont have that kind of money laying around.

I was not planning on showing him....hes just a home pet LOL

But I love him dearly and worry about him. so for now till I get more info. And down the line if he seems to be in pain we will deal with that then. But for now he seems to be totally fine with his disability. Does not slow him down in anyway!
I really appreciate your post... makes me feel better!
