Hi all, second time basset person but first time puppy! We got our dog at 10 weeks and he has always been extremely sensitive about his paws being touched. The only place that has ever clipped his nails was the vet, so I have considered that it was a bad experience for him if they were a bit rough. I have no idea as they are not allowing people inside, but they’ve been my vet hospital for various animals for 20 years so I trust them.
Anyway, does anyone else have a basset with extreme nail trimming anxiety? He gets very aggressive, I would guess he might bite if I didn’t stop when I see the warning signs. Even if I pick up his foot/leg to untangle the leash he yelps. He’s 13 months now and tolerates me touching his feet and nails, but he gets lip-curly after a minute (yes, that’s the technical term)
Thanks for any info or thoughts!

Thank you both for your responses. I ordered a nail grinding tool and I'm hoping with that and a bag of liver treats I can get the job done safely and calmly over time.
