OK! So who is all going to be at Nationals? Any way we can get up to date infor on our favorite entries, shy of being there?
Also, does this play into the the BIG shows, or are we talking about field and/or obedience?

Call me Curious!

P.S. We needed a new topic, eh, wot?

LOL, Nationals covers almost everything our hounds can do. So there's a dog show (bassets only). Usually there's about 350 bassets entered in that. Then there's obedience, agility, tracking, hunt tests, field trials, rally-o. Sometimes there's extras, like CGC testing or health clinics. And there's always lots of educational events.

Unfortunately, I can't go this year. :(

While they don't keep track of everyone there, the big winners will be posted on the BHCA website as the show goes along.

I have two dogs entered in the tracking test. Because there are a limited number of slots, I have to wait to see if their names are drawn for those slots. I'm also Obedience Trial co-chair, so I'll be going, one way or another. :)

I've only been once, but I *really* enjoyed myself. This year sounds especially good, with the CGC test, Rally, and a Performance Fair where folks can try out various activities with their bassets. There are many, many beautiful Bassets to admire and pet...Go if you can. It's too far for me to make this year with my hounds, and I generally don't enjoy dog activities unless they come along...

I have a number of friends going, and I had hoped to go, too. BUT we have an accreditation visit in our department at the end of October and the department chair told everyone, faculty and staff alike, that no one was to ask for any time off prior to the visit. It's important -- and we've never been busier! I'm going to follow Nationals results on my cell phone and the BHCA web site.

But next year, come h*ll or high water, I'm going to Gettysburg. I've already told the Chair I need time off next October!!!

Billy, I have summers off, thank goodness! This is very temporary and very important, so I can't complain.

Addy, I believe area clubs volunteer to sponsor the Nationals, but I'm not 100% sure of this.

Billy, if you send Ike I'd consider handling him. Call or e-mail me. I'm flying in, but I'll be there Sun. to Sun. Let me know if that helps. Belinda.

thanks Belinda,i'll let you know if he is going if you don't here from me he ain't.Jeff Pettit and/or Cindy Barlow were going to handle and take him out for me,but i'm quite sure they would be more than happy to have a helping hand or two, they have a lot of dogs they bring to a trial.Jeff did a lot of AHBA stuff when he was in the Ohio area as well as the AKC trials.if Ike don't go and you want to help them out i will not feel hurt, plus they are cool people too.

How do they decide on the location?
It is on a Central, Eastcost, central, west coast, alternating cycle. The national's are indeed sponsored by local clubs. But because of the logistics of securing space that is compatable and centeraized for all the various activities, Conformation, tracking, Field Trials, Obedience, and agility in the past there had been some deviation from the schedule above. Also with that in mind there was talk of making permenate site within the parameters above with St. Louis for the Central and Gettysburg for the East as host sites. I not sure if that is the case or not but my understand is 2006 is at Gettysburg again.

I thought that Sacramento was somewhere on the schedule? 2008, maybe? Or is this just wishful thinking on my part :(

Great, just great. humpf. :( So, any hope for Sacramento or thereabouts? there are some of us for whom Gettysburg and Pittsburg are both the East Coast...which one qualifies as the mid-west, I'm wondering?

If you can convince the northern California clubs. :) Maybe volunteering to be Nationals Coordinator would do it. ;)

Ok, for a start, any other northern california club members who are interested, send me a PM. Actually, I'll settle for people who are interested members of Basset Hounds Clubs or the BHCA who are for any part of California, or in Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Utah or Nevada. Not holding my breath......
