Well, Flushy is pretty different. My favorite "different" name on this forum is Toughynutter. The strangest name I've heard comes from the AHBA forum and that is Wench.

Last year we had a thread going that asked, "How did you choose your basset's name?" It went on for some time, lots of good stories and lots of good and sometimes strange names.

How did Flushy get his/her name?

I think gsally is right. Flushy and toughynutter are some pretty unique names. We just adopted a dog named Breezy. Not sure why her previous owners named her that since she doesn't have any obvious gas problems that I can tell.

I have yet to hear anyone name their basset this but I think Hoover would be a great basset name (or Eureka if its a girl). Perhaps one day when I can have more than 3 bassets I can have a Hoover and a Eureka.

I once knew a Basset named Earwig, but I think hands-down the strangest name was a Pug named Toadspit.

Hardly anu weird names near me.... but there is a Basset who comes and stays in my town in his family's holiday cottage every now and again and his name is Hoover, because he has always sucked up everything in sight from being a puppy... and he's now an elderly gentleman!

In our family we name our dogs after fictional characters. In the past we've had:

Chewie the Boxer (from Star Wars)
Leia the Pug (from Star Wars)
Willow the Pug (from Buffy)
Oz the Schnauser (from Buffy)
Colossus the Chihuahua (from X-Men)
River the Chug (from Firefly)
Jasper the Lab (from Twilight)
Sookie the Chihuahua (from True Blood)
Priya the cat (from Dollhouse)

and now our little basset is Whiskey (from Dollhouse).

The strangest name I've ever known was my aunts old shihtzu named "Phreak". LOL

FWIW on the set of duke of hazzard life size dupplicate ie basset crash dummy stand in for the basser hound "flash" that was dubed "flush" by cast and crew.

Totally appropriate for a hunting dog that was petrified of going outside as a puppy. Sort of a self estemme booster, Nothing would get him more incensed than when some one referred to him as Tuffy which is oviously a name suitable only for a toy poddle.

I am also proud of the dog name prior to toughynutter a sweet female by the name of "sunngleupagainstup" said real fast an you will get the sesame street insperation. And the best basset name that never was, was the one I came up with for my mother's dog. A rescue with the previous names of Miss Mooosley and Miss Mosely. Since her previous dogs name wash zephyr see whas looking for a wind inspired name begining with the letter "M" and settled on the rather mundane they call the wind "Mariah" rather than the more personality appropriate "Monsoon" I suggested.
