I am in love! She's beautiful! And she seems like she knows it... she's great at posing for the camera. ;) Do you think she knows how cute she is? I especially love tha fourth photo (where she looks like she's begging prettily). HOW did you get her to do that?

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the kind words! We love our puppy girl to pieces and my wife (Debbie) did a terrific job with the photos (she thanks you too for your compliments on them).

Dassi is our second Basset and we've had her for a month now. She is an absolute joy and loves to learn new things. She's really smart and very curious about everything. You can see those Basset gears turning in her head. At this point she knows the following commands: Sit, Speak, Down, Stay and Come. She still has a way to go (as you would expect) in her training, but she's just a baby really and I'm thrilled that she's so receptive to learning. Actually, we haven't started formal obedience training yet and won't until she's 6 months old. In the mean time, I'm working with her to get her used to the concepts and she really enjoys it. She is super affectionate and loaded with puppy energy. She can get a bit mouthy, as all puppies can, but I've been working on that with her and she is making great progress, i.e. a nice soft bite. She's finally sleeping through the night now and is coming along with her housetraining.

We've singed up for a Puppy K class beginning on May 26th. She will finally have all her shots by then and I will be able to take her out to public places. I can't wait to start going on walks around the block with her.

Here are a few more photos taken that same day.

I just thought of a nickname for your Dassi:

Classy Dassi

Janice[/b]

Hi Janice,

Actually, her name is pronounced "DAH-SEE". I'm guessing you thought it was pronounced "DAS-SEE". The name "Dassi" is a nickname for "Hadassah" which is Hebrew for "Esther", a.k.a. "Queen Esther" from the Old Testament. Queen Esther was a strong willed, independent woman of great character so knowing Bassets we thought it would be a perfect fit!
