Jesse has a very large gash on the inside of his mouth
and I thought I had gotten all of the sheet rock off the floor. Apparently I missed a piece and when I got out of the shower noticed Jesse crunching on it. I pried his mouth open to get it out and I noticed a large, hard lump under his right eye
. Once my husband got home I was able to take a better look. Jesse has a very deep gash, so deep it almost looks like I can see the bone, but I'm not sure about that. It's clean, though. His lips are all pink and so are his gums. It doesn't appear to be infected, it's not oozing that I can tell. He's just as active and normal. Since we've been home it seems that the swelling has gone down a bit, but it could be just that we've gotten used to it.
Now, I don't know if the sheet rock could have caused this, but I imagine it can. My questions: I'm assuming it's infected since it's so puffy, although it's not causing him that much pain since he is currently chewing on my shirt. Is there anything I can do to prevent further infection or treat the current infection? He goes to the vet on Saturday for his 12 week checkup so I'm sure he'll get something there, but in the meantime is there anything I can do? Can dogs take human antibiotics? My daughter is on maintenance amxocillian so we have plenty of it in the house.
With mouth injuries, can they be sticthed up or does it need to just heal on it's own.
THANKS!!
