I also have two (males) Bassets. They are about 3 months apart in age, and still under a year. I have no idea if training them would be easier together or individually. I do know that you have got to get some cotton rope and make some "knotted ropes" for them to play tug-o-war. It makes a great video. :D

i think it depends on what you are training them to do.

for basics like "sit" I think best separate. get the full concentration

for "wait" (our equivalent to "stay") was best together.

walking at my side best together.

fun stuff like "shake" I did separate.

Best to teach each new thing separately so they can focus their full attention on the lesson, once they know it you can work them together.

as miriam said when training something new you want to minimize distraction. once it it learn and to strengthen the behavior you want to slowly increase the distraction level and train in new places etc. One way to increase distraction is train/work borh together.
