It started with a loud thunderstorm early Monday morning. I slept through it, but was told it was a loud one. Molly has been going through a bit of a fear stage and loud noises scare the heck out of her. She was alone downstairs with Winston and surely this storm scared her. Then the Memorial Day parade passed the end of our street...complete with noisy sirens and a marching band with a drum corps. She wouldn't go outside. Then there was the gun salute at the American Legion post around the corner. Ugh, my poor baby.

Then in the evening, her stomach started bugging her. She doesn't want to eat, will occasionally drink, and has low tolerance for her 4 month old brothers antics (I've broken up some potentially aggressive tussles throughout the evening). I took Winston for a walk to tire him out so he'd leave Molly alone so she could rest. She vomited once that I saw, not much in it...just yellowish and she ate it. If she vomited more, I haven't found it, but she is always quick to hide the evidence. She's eaten nothing out of the ordinary and I don't believe she got into anything. She did eat a bunch of dog treats at grandma's on Sunday, but other than that, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm stumped. Winston has a vet appointment for shots Tuesday morning. I'm going to see if they'll take Molly instead, or at least see her at some point. I'm not one to rush to the vet for a simple belly ache, but she is so unhappy and doesn't seem to be feeling better.

I would have her checked out. Spencer suffered from anxiety & fear, which often resulted in colitis, causing vomiting as you described & diarrhea, (sp?) sometimes bloody. More than once it needed medical treatment. I learned to anticipate & avoid situations that caused him problems, and on some occasions (like the 4th of July) the vet would prescribe a mild tranquilizer. Good luck!

I'm so frustrated! I called the vet to see if they could take Molly instead of Winston and they said the allotted time for Winston was 15 minutes and that's not enough to do a full assessment on Molly. They can't see her at all. They have been caring for her since I got her in September and know her (and she knows them)...I don't want to switch vets but just might have to. The dog is throwing up any food in her stomach, pacing, and doesn't want anything to do with playing. Not my Molly.

I was about to write a rant about them not squeezing your Molly in today (our vet has always had us bring our animals in when ill, they make time for illness like that).

The worst part is that on many occasions they've run behind and I've waited 20-30 minutes past my scheduled time with no complaints. I figure they had a patient that needed more time and if it were my dog or cat, I'd want the dr to take that time. But when I needed it, it was an issue. I do like the vet and am glad they could accommodate us. Now to make Molly well again.

I know on another forum (a parenting website of all things) someone posted about buying that for their dog, some sort of terrier. Anyway, it made a huge difference in her dog's reactions to loud noises. Now another member has bought one but hasn't updated yet if it worked for her dog (although her husband assumes it will be an expensive chew toy lmao).

I hope your doggy feels better! And thank goodness the vet got her in, my vet is usually good about getting a sick animal in but the other vet in town never does, even when he is the emergency vet on call. I had two instances of trying to get a dog into him when my vet wasn't available and I have nothing nice at all to say about him-I was even ok with paying an extra 50 for not having an appt, paying only in cash since I hadn't been to him, and then he said I could wait til the next morning. Blah. Anyway, good luck and update us please!

Molly went to the vet and had 2 xrays done on her belly. Nothing showed, thankfully, but the dr said that doesn't mean something isn't blocking her. She's on anti-nausea meds, bland Science Diet canned food, and had fluid under the skin. She needs to go back tonight if she's vomiting over the meds. Otherwise, we wait for her to feel better and hopefully she'll poop soon!

Thanks for all the well wishes...she's sleeping on her bed, and it seems her baby brother got the clue that she isn't feeling good. Little brothers can be annoying like that!

Here's prayers that Molly feels better and goes Boom-Boom...they are so llike are "babies"...my 13 yr old had emergency surgery several weeks ago and had 6 inches of lg intestine removed...I texted the whole family when he finally went "Boom-Boom" (he was embarassed).....Keep us Posted and healing thoughts (and drool) from Woody and me.

Poor Molly... wishing you a speedy recovery. hope your tummy feels better soon. i can relate to being scared because my person is clumsy and sometimes drops things from the counter, esp in the kitchen. and i run away because i don't want to have things falling on my head, except raindrops.

ps. re: "thundershirts" how interesting they make this. there is a good movie w/Claire Danes about Temple Grandin, a woman w/fairly severe autism who eventually got a PhD against the odds. she actually made a "thundershirt" contraption for herself, after finding that it relieved her anxiety too. there is a lot of evidence for this type of body compression helping w/anxiety. in the first minute of this preview, you can see the wooden contraption:

Molly is about the same. She threw up a couple of times last night and we ended up at the emergency vet. More x-rays, but nothing showed except a bunch of gas. She doesn't want food, but will drink her water. She got an injection of something to calm her belly, more fluids, and an nsaid injection to ease the stomach cramping. Still lethargic and out of sorts. She doesn't care for the Science Diet i/d canned food, no matter what I add. The ER vet called to check on her this morning and said she may not eat yet, but I could try Gerber baby food: turkey or chicken. Off to the store to get that and hope she'll eat something.

So, still no sign of blockage, thankfully, but a very expensive case of gastroenteritis. Winston is so bored and keeps checking if Molly's ready to play, but each time he gets a stern growl and he retreats. It's been a rough 36 hours and I am hoping she'll start showing signs of improvement soon.
