Hi everyone! I am looking for a Basset/Standard Poodle mix. I recently lost my dog Joplin of 15 yrs. She was a Bassetoodle and the best dog I have ever had! I came a cross her at a second chance animal shelter 15 yrs ago looking for a beagle. I can't say enough what a loving, gentle, loyal dog that she was. I wish there was a breeder who bred these dogs!! If anyone who knows anything about where I might look or where to find this wonderful mix I would forever be grateful. My Joplin was the best and she took a piece of my heart when she passed away in my arms.
Hope to hear from someone soon!

Thank You!

hears the thing mixes are not going to reproduce the same traits reliably like a purebred dog. so one bassetooddle is going to vary greatly from the next trying to Joplin is doomed to failure. purposely breeding mix breed is the definition of idiocy

I'm very sorry for your loss and I wish you luck. As Mikey mentioned, the problem with mixes is inconsistency, so two of the same mix can be VERY different.

You might want to try Petfinder.com.

BYBs

Hi everyone! I am looking for a Basset/Standard Poodle mix.
NO reputable breeder deliberately mix-breeds. BYBs only breed for money. Mix bred dogs don't breed true so even if you find one (please not), it is unlikely to be like the dog you have recently lost. Please buy a Basset, or a Standard Poodle - or adopt one from a Shelter. Mix-breeding is irresponsible, and doing those breeds who have been developed over generations for reasons not to do with making money, untold harm.

Breaking my silence for this one.

Bassetoodles

I am considering getting a Basset. I know, or probably would't want to, "replace" my Bassetoodle that I just lost. No dog could replace what she brought into my life> I understand about being a mixed breed breeder. At the same time if there is a "mistake" anywhere out there and another Bassetoodle is produced I wouldn't hesitate to get one. I sure do miss her! I know its only been a couple of days since she passed but the void is just too big to wait to fill.

OMG, LOL.

I'm so sorry for your loss & feel for you, but can we call a Bassetoddle a Cross, not some fancy name that has no standard & allows unscrupulous people to breed them for extremely high 'designer' prices.

This is not in reply to Ziegler looking for a Basset cross but interesting reading about what goes on 'Yes' in the UK but I'm sure we're not alone as many more are now being brought in to the country in horrendous conditions from Europe.

I have NEVER purchased a full bred or "cross breed" dog. I have always gone to animal shelters to get a dog. I have only done this 4 times because 2 is my limit and the dogs I have rescued have all lived a very long and happy life. I checked there first. You are so right in the fact that there are so many dogs that need good homes! All I'm saying is I raised my "cross breed" from 4 mos old and although I have dearly loved all of my dogs my Joplin held the specialist place in my heart. I had the best of both worlds of the traits of the Basset and the Poodle. A shelter is where I got her. A shelter is where I will get another dog that needs a good home.

I really know how you feel. I lost a very very loved Basset (she was a rescue as a puppy) last year. We think she was crossed with a Polar Bear ;-)!
We'll never have another Lula. There are never guarantees of how they will turn out... especially with crosses. txx

Sounds as if their is going to be a lucky dog out there, waiting for you.
Hope in the future to be able to give a home to a Basset rescue, unfortunately there are far too many looking for homes, having been bought for their 'cuddly & huggable' image by those who have no idea or done little to no research, so sad that dogs have become disposable items.
Wish you well in your search.

so sorry for your loss.

the comments about each dog being different are so true..... years ago I adopted a beagle, very quiet, gentle, well mannered.

I thought, these are great dogs!! I'll adopt another. 3 more beagles later I can tell you each one was a completely different personality.

I dearly loved (and miss) them all and their personalities but no one was like the first, nor were they like each other!!

you will no doubt find your next best friend and he/she will be lucky to be adopted by you.

@FM...yes, nice to hear from you. I really miss your comments

Thanks Mikey (and Ziegler etc!) - I do 'lurk' but generally speaking will only be putting my two-bits-worth here, if I feel motivated enough

Vecti .... glad you put that article on here - I was just about to do the same. It's a brilliant one, and I'm so glad it's on the Daily Wail, which is a rag many people seem to buy. Let's hope for once, it spreads the truth where it's needed.
