I have a 4 year old tri-color basset male. We're struggling with nosework as is his friend, a bloodhound.

I know his nose functions just fine. He's really good at scoping out food on the kitchen counter. He's good at finding scents in the park.

I'm thinking that nosework might not be his thing . When it comes to class, he's not very enthusiastic. If anyone has any games or techniques they would like to share I would be grateful.

couple things to consider.
1. stress in stressful situations bassets tend to shut down and this gets to observation that basset are stubborn and lazy
2. you have not properly transferred value to searching for scent in class setting. are your reward high value to the dog? Is he getting same reward for a less work. In class setting I see people all the time give same treat to the dog for maintaining attention, on them, lying quietly etc. This devalues the scent work.
