Hello all, we have a10 month old basset puppy. We have stairs for him to get on the bed (although usually he uses the nightstand to get a boost up) but he always jumps down to get off the bed. He was limping holding up a front paw last week and now is limping holding up the back one instead. Is the only solution to ban him from our room? ☹☹☹

It won't help for him to be jumping off the bed BUT have you had your vet rule out this being Panosteitis? He's the 'right age' for this and it presents as moving from one limb to another - hence the nickname the creeping disease. It's VERY painful when it hits but the good news is it can be controlled with painkillers, and it will go away, eventually. But meanwhile, total rest is needed, preferably crate rest with the animal only being taken outside on a lead, to empty.

Don't ban him from your room, but using a crate or other confinement, keep him OFF THE BED. I believe as much harm/injury can be done from jumping down, as going up.

Of course, this could just be jumping off the bed.

not going to hurt rear leg jumping off the bed. I would suspect pano as well given the age, sex and starting with a front leg by guess would be front left bercause that where it starts almost half the time.

Hello. You need to bay or make a ramp for the basset to getting up and down to tje bed, or lift your basset. We also have a ramp for using when my bassets are going in and out of the car. Just for do not harm on their legs.

Agree, check for pano. But most importantly, keep him off the bed, stairs, etc. until this subsides and/or is diagnosed. Kennel until better if need be. Keep on leash when taking out so no running until also.
