Hello All, I have not been on the forum for quite a while but I always turn to this community for advice and comfort when one of my babies are not feeling well. It is nice to see the screen names of so many old timers and I know there must be some words of wisdom out there for me. So if you have experienced this form of Cancer or have any insight or recommendations, please chime in.

My Riley is now about 10 years old. I noticed a lump on his snout and the doctor said it was a "pus pocket" due to a bad tooth. He extracted Riley's large tooth in the back but the lump remained and it didn't drain so we did a biopsy.
It is Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Here is what I know: it has not spread to his lymph nodes. It has not Metastasized. His blood work looks good. The lump is located upper gums/under his eye...smaller than a golf ball but increasing in size. No changes in appetite, sleeping, playing etc. Mitotic Index is 22.

Anyone with experience with this cancer? Course of action? Outcome? Riley sees the Oncologist on Tuesday unless I can get him in there faster.

Thanks ~ Bev

sorry you are going through this.

a dear friend just went through this with their older basset (near front tooth). You need to have this surgically treated quickly. There may be some residual deformity as they will take wide margins.

The basset is now fine. surgery was a bit pricey though....a few thousand dollars but again, highly effective.

As in people, squamous cell (rhymes with 'famous') can be rapidly growing and spread.

please keep us posted. sounds like you got this one early.
