Thanks, Grace is the one with a blue eye, and she is so special to me. My daughter bought her for me in 2003 for Christmas she picked her out when she was a couple weeks old. When it was time to get her, the breeder called and said one eye is blue do you still want her. My daughter said , my mom would't care, that well only make her more special, and she is that and more to me.

Helen,
That's a great slide show. Beautiful bassets (and the wannabe)! Gracie is waaaaay-cool!

I also looked at 'My Backyard' very nice bird pics. Almost all of the Blue Jays in my area have dissapeared, I think wiped out by west nile virus. I never thought I'd missed the noisy buggers, but I do. How do you manage bird feeders & bassets? I ended up with hounds throwing up birdseed, and ambushing the poor tweety birds. I had to stop feeding them out back, put a feeder in the front yard.

We only have 2 hounds and various family members think we are nuts! :p

Heh, heh. I agree with both sadeyes2 and Barb. ;) They may well all be spayed and neutered, and if not, I hope they will be in the near future. :D

Gee I'm really out of practice, I deleted my own post. I did say that I certainly couldn't tell from the pictures if Helensbassets were spayed/neutered. Also a blue eye isn't "special" though I'm sure she is a special dog like all our bassets are to us. It's not something reputable breeders would want to pass on.

Ok ,before everyone starts an attack. ALL my male dogs are nutered and MY Grace is not going to have puppies. I am a responsable breeder, I keep all my dogs to standard. Grace was bought for me cause I lost a basset to cancer and I was depressed with the lost of both of my parents. It was a very sad time and an angel was sent to me. My dogs are well took care of and pampered to death.I hope you looked at my pictures with pleasure as I entended. By the way,The lab you see is a rescue dog, something I believe in strongly. I have a cat and she was also a rescue. So this time look at my pictures and try to smile cause they were took out of a moms pride, they saved my life. By the way I'm not a professional photographer you can pick on the lightening and the compsetion of my pictures and my camera is very cheap I have to use every trick in the book to get good light. If I was younger I would take classes ,cause photoshop is a mystery to me. Have a good day.

A reminder that many of us are rescue volunteers and that rescues and shelters are populated by dogs produced mainly by backyard breeders. This is the reason we don't support their practices.

Thank you corvuss for signing my guestbook. You are most welcome to look at any of my slides. Thank everyone that was so kind to me. I really thought this was a nice forum to talk about my dogs and share pictures.I'm a big picture ham I love for people to see my dogs.

I don't know why I was signaled out as being a bad guy in any of this. I think I should get an apology, I do have 6 dogs, but I'm sure other people have too. It bought makes me sick to think you were trying to see if my dogs were spayed or nutered, the only reason you even looked at my pictures. For an attack yes it was that, was total unfair. and to have the nerve to say my dog is not special to me.I think if you seen her and felt the joy she gives everyone around her, not her looks. MY vet enformed me when she was a puppy ,this happens all the time a dog well have a blue eye it was not the breeders fault. I did'nt buy her she was a gift of love from my daughter.

As for rescue I have many times helped and been apart of because in our area 78% of dogs that aren't rescued are put down. I guess I should have started a new thread but the more I read the madder I got.

Please take your time and read the entire page !!! from top to bottom thank you ,every word .maybe twice cause I couldn't belive it my self.

OK Helen, I guess I'm the one who you think should apologize, but don't hold your breath waiting for it, and here's why.
First it appears by my calculations that the first time you bred Gracie, she was not much more than a pup herself (unless when you got her at Xmas 2003 she was several months old)as her pups were born March 2005. That is not responsible breeding. I don't know when her second litter was born, but I do know that you stated on another basset forum that you were thinking of breeding her again as you think her eye is so special.

I can't imagine that you wrote out a spay and neuter contract when you sold these pups considering you yourself think it's fine to breed, and if you work out just how many pups will probably result from your two breedings, (eg your buyers breeding either intentionally or by mistake, their buyers breeding, and so on and so on) in a few short years it will probably add up to thousands!

Then we consider what will happen to the majority of these pups. Many will end up being the objects of cruelty and ultimately end their lives prematurely in shelters.(and the method of euthanisation is not always humane) search the archives for 'irresponsible breeders the movie'. BTW this video was not made by Peta, and was used by the president of the Humane Society when she was trying to make this form of execution illegal. or go to www.borntodiepets.com/ both will break your heart.

I love animals and for that reason alone I would never breed. As for those who think it is wrong to challenge someone who breeds in this way, I must disagree. If by reading this it makes just one lurker or member think twice about breeding, then many hundreds or ultimately thousands of dogs could be saved from a life of cruelty and ultimately a premature death

Sorry you feel attacked Helensbassets but you're putting words into our mouths. I said your girl was special but a blue eye is not. Period. No one said they were looking at your pictures to see if your dogs were spayed or neutered. I said they possibly were spayed or neutered but that a picture could not tell one way or the other. That doesn't mean anyone was looking at your dogs for that reason.

You said your girl isn't going to have puppies. Hope she's spayed so you no longer have to worry about pyometra.

I want to remind you of something that you have forgotten most of the people on this board are proud of and love their bassets. They have found this foreum to tell everyone about there special dogs. For some reason unknow to me you have went out of your way to be mean to me. If its the slide show I'm sorry. My whole attempt was to have as many people sign my guestbook as I could get .because my daughter had started one of other things, and she said she could get more people to look at hers as I could. with out telling them.I thought it would be fun to try. (she has way out done me) You want have to look anymore if it bothers you. (I can tell it does) Go back to the other board and ask Mary to tell you about my animals she has been to my house. I well post pictures there so you better avoid my threads. I sure hope no one ever has have to come behind me and apologise ,you have good friends ,be nice to them.God bless your work and thank you for helping poor animals out there.
I so enjoyed what little time I was here at the board, moves so quickly and the people are so nice but harsh words live on forever and I guess this well not end so this well be my last post. sadly I must say good bye. helensbassets
