Hmm, that is strange :| ! I wonder why they are selling the poor little thing? My stepson made the mistake of telling me about a basset he saw at the local animal shelter :( . Of course, I can't have another at the moment, don't have the room. Anyone have an idea how I can help this little guy. Also, just wondering why ebay can't list live animals?

I also reported it and left a note for the seller. They are a new person -- they might not know the rules. Is anybody involved with rescue in the Kansas area and could leave them a message about placing their dog in rescue?

Thank you, 3D, I reported this, too. I'd be surprised if the seller really isn't aware of the rules. He'll probably show up under a different name in a couple of weeks.....

Here's the news listings regarding the issues around ebay allowing live animals through their listings and why they don't.

Biggest reasons are public outcry when they were considering it and fear of enabling less reputable people (like puppy mills) an easy outlet for overbreeding etc.

CNet News.com - http://news.com.com/eBay+shelves+plans+for..._3-6001773.html

ABC News - http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=1424984

CNews - http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/TechNews/TechA...1361561-ap.html

There's many many more ... I just googled "ebay","live animals","news" and those above are the top three.

Personally I'm glad they don't allow it, and I feel sorry for that poor basset listed on there :( I hope he finds a good "forever" home ...

MAKES ME SICK!!!!! Selling animals on E-Bay,I just E-Mailed them too.

Lori, could you not phone or E-Mail your nearest Basset Rescue about the basset in the shelter?
About E-Bay...They put out a questionaire asking people,s opinion on the sale of animals and then made a statement saying that they would not be selling them. Just hope this is a mistake!!!!

The listing was just pulled by the seller, who now says 'This item is no longer for sale'. I sent him a nast email about it, and perhaps he was also contacted by E-Bay.

Poor, poor dog.......

This is terrible, but I'm glad the posting is no longer available.
What will happen to this little fella though? :(
I hope he will find a better home soon. He deserves it.
