Venus for some odd reason wakes around 4 every morning for a little attention and wants to be let outside. Comes back in and right back to sleep. I'm hoping this is only a phase, but she's been doing it for about 2 months.

I think there is something waking them up.

That's the time our newspaper is delivered. Do you have that happening by chance?

I'm sorry to hear that you have this happening. I'm sure it must be tough to sleep. My two play musical beds at night and that alone drives me bonkers!

Back when Francis could see he used to howl at the moon or the street lights when I left the shades open. I always had to remember to shut the shades or else I'd wake up to that looney aroooooo. I sort of miss it now but I know how annoying it could get when you're trying to sleep. Have you tried totally darkening the room?

The bedroom where they sleep is totally dark and cozy. Soft with carpeting and their soft pillow beds with bed pillows on them!! They also have soft fleece blankets. Here's Stickers on hers on day in the family room.

I did get a new stinky Tshirt last night so it wasn't the same Tshirt from the night before   I really think Rusty is starting it and missing us. Wish us peaceful sleep tonight!

Pearly doesn't howl but for the last month she has been waking up between 1a-3a and barking at me until I wake up. I can not figue what she wants and it is EVERY night. She is 4 1/2 and this is a new behavior for her. We have a doggy door so that isn't it and she has plenty of water and food available (I free feed and there are always left overs). I usually just keep telling her to be quiet and after about 5 minutes she goes back to sleep..... strange. However Sabian now howls when I sing to him. It is the cutest thing....but not at 1am!

It might be wild animals waking them up.
Some species take the same path every night, and are pretty regular when it comes to time too.
We are visited by a fox everynight. Not seen it yet as I've been asleep, but Mr. Runcible tells me all about it when he's out to pee in the morning.
Maybe your dogs are reacting to something like that?

Two thoughts:

Kaira's idea about an animal is a good possibility. Every spring our yard, even though it's fenced, becomes part of a 'skunk route'. I leave lights on in the yard and on the porches from mid-March to mid-April to discourage them- they prefer darkness.

Have you recently installed new central air or a new heating system? There could be a new high pitched noise that you're not aware of, but that bothers them when something kicks on during the night.

Of course, it could just be insomnia and missing you! :p

If you figure this out, I'd be interested.
