bring you a specific toy. My firend's dog is able to retrive any toy on command (ex. when asked to bring her tennis ball, the dog will dutifully bring her tennis ball; it is amazing). How do I begin to get Byron to get his blue bunny rather than his rope toy

I can't get my two to do any tricks, but my cousin has a Red Heeler mix that will open the frig and bring him a beer. He worked really hard with her to do that. He tied a rag to the handle, so she could open the door. That's how she opens the door to her toys too.
The funny thing is, that she won't hand him the beer, she drops it in front of him on the floor.
She will also sit still with a treat on her nose until he says she can have it.

I can't even get my kids to do that, much less Huck. Gracie however will bring you anything - it's just not necessarily what you ask for.

Does the dog have a reliable retrieve? if not you have to start there before even thinging about discriminating article which by the way is not that difficult if interested the following articles may be of interest.
