I sure love our mix, though she was a pound puppy rather than anything designer. We get some of the basset traits, but we miss some of the inherent problems. Her back isn't as long, and she's not quite as pigeontoed as some of her "cousins". So I'm hoping we've got less chance of joint issues. BUT, I would sure like some more ears, Harriet's aren't very long and she's decided to hold them up and out so they don't droop. I suppose that means I don't have to clean them as often(should be another mix advantage), but I'd definitely trade the time I'd save on ear cleaning for loooong cute ears.
Having said that, Harriet's best friend (my mother's dog) is a Schnoodle. She wasn't very expensive, and she's a great companion for Mom.
