Dobby was sitting by the back screen door today just wanting to go out and play with our 19yr old cat who tolerates him to follow her around the yard as she pretends to sniff everything as if it were new and he just threw up his head and howled-then he stopped and looked at us like 'oh my gosh did I do that' and proceeded to wag his tail like crazy. And I have been promoting howling by doing it to show him how...or I should say howl

Yeah!!!! That first howl is so special.

I spent many hours "teaching" several of mine how to howl. I still remember the "what are you doing??" looks that they gave me.

But it was worth it becuase I love every howl they give me.

We taught our basset to howl too, so that he could let us know when he needs something. Some people hate his howl and some love it. I love it because it's his expression and each basset howl is unique.

Jeffrey used to howl more than he does now. But we still get it every once-in-a-while, and it's worth the wait! He's only 5 months, and has the deepest howl! We love it and get lots of laughs every time.
