Hello,.

Shane here from Ireland, I have a seven month old basset hound and he seems a little thin.

Is this normal for puppies, I had him on Hills (Science plan) complete food mix but he was`nt eating much of it so put him onto Thinned chicken and beef meat with pedegree chum mixer and the usual treats.

I must post up some pictures tomorrow of him, Hes putting on weight ...just not a whole pile.

hes quite pickey but i guess that comes with the breed.

Thanks for any help.;

He may just be having a growth spurt and his weight can't keep up with the growing. Seven months is about equivalent to a teenage human and you know how some kids shoot up overnight and get all gangly and skinny. Have you had the vet check for worms, just in case? If that's not it, he's probably fine and it'll all even out in the end.

Unless the vet is concerned about the weight you can feel lucky you have a basset on the lean side. My 4 weigh between 28 and 47 lbs. and the vet says they are all in great shape and at a good weight.

It's far easier not to have to put them on diets later on in life.

A picky basset! Consider yourself lucky! Ours will eat anything that isn't nailed down, and it doesn't even have to be what normal folks consider food. Seriously, it is so hard to keep their weight down later in life, that as long as he has a clean bill of health I wouldn't worry. Look forward to pics!
