My husband and I adopted two bassets from the Middletown NY Humane Society back in December. We were told that these sweethearts were purchased from pet stores for breeding. They supposedly lived outside and slept in a garage. When they didn't get it on, their owner got very upset. Luckily for them and us he decided to drop them off at the Humane Society (although the volunteers there said that he yanked them out of his truck, letting them hit the ground hard before shoving them in the building and taking off).
There was evidence of abuse (huge welts on their sides) and a lack of socialization (one of them will not let strangers touch him), but they are still two of the sweetest, most loving dogs we have ever met! They didn't respond to their names when we adopted them (probably b/c nobody ever talked to them) so we named them Magnolia and Roscoe.
Maggie is the pretty one with the pink on her nose and Roscoe is the handsome devil on the right.
We absolutely adore them!
