Recently my Phoebe was diagnosed with Cushings. She just turned 6 and overall is doing well but she keeps getting staph infections (size of a 50 cent coin) on her which causes her fur to fall out and gets all crusty. It doesn't seem to bother her and each time a new one shows up I use the antibiotic steroid spray the vet gave me for her. She isn't on any medications right now other than the spray but I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with Cushings. :(

cushing is the over production or cortisol which will tend to have the dog put on weight and have autoimmune suppression hence the staff infections. Medication to control the issue revolves around destroying the tissue that cause the overproduction. and often results in the corollary addison's disease . That said had one dog that was older when acquired and the medication worked well. after a few years it was stop and maintained enough function she did not need cortisol/prednisone supplementation for the rest of her life. My understanding it controlling it is very much and individual experience and some like ours was very easy to control and quite stable while other dogs it seem like they bounce around from crisis to crisis.
