HELP! Male Basset with no interest to Female in heat

12115 Views 23 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Barbara Winters
I am new to this forum, but I have a question. We have a basset that is 2 years old, her name is Puddles. We are using a Male who is 5 years old to breed with. Rufus, the male is not interested in Puddles, he will sniff her for a second then turn or walk away, or she will wag her tail and wack him in the face. Either way he is not interested and just keeps walking away. Is it possible that he can't smell her, that his nose can't smell?? He is definitely not neutered, so I don't know what is going on. This is both Puddles and Rufus' first time, is it possible they don't know what to do, but shouldn't he show more interest??
Thanks in advance for advice
Kristi

Puddles, I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain you must be suffering.

However, I do hope that at some point in time you can absorb the advice that was given here and realize that breeding your bitch is probably not the best idea.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.....

Speak for yourself, Dean. ;)

some people seem to be more concerned with shaming newcomers instead of trying to educate
That does not seem to be the intention to me. Most everyone was explaining that more education on the subject seemed warranted.
Posters who want to flame the moderators should get their facts straight. The offending post BTW has been deleted. The only breeders on this forum who post regularly are Pinehawk, Dean Wickwire and Soundtrack. Neither Betsy nor I are breeders. Betsy by the way has at least one dog with a versatility title and another well on her way. If someone wants to start a new topic on responsible breeding be my guest but the "Puddles" thread is closed.
