Hello all,

We are new on here and want to introduce our selfs. My name is Lenny my Fiancée Irina and our baby Sherlock. We are from Baltimore MD. Sherlock is our first dog and i don't think we could have chosen a better breed. Of course not a perfect breed to start with when you not sure how to raise a puppy but we are doing great (if i may say that my self ;)).

I'm so glad we found this forum and we will have 100 million questions and i hope you guys wont mind helping us here. I would like to apologize in advance if we will bring up a topic that you guys been over but it will really help us with this stubborn breed.

So lets get down to business: He is 8 month old now, when should we switch him to an adult dog food?

P.S All of the dogs i have seen here look so great.

This is Sherlock!!!

Welcome, and great pictures. My 2 are my first two dogs of my own, it certianly has been interesting. There are a lot of people on this site who know a lot about the breed, and of course all of us are owned by our Bassets and you will be too (if you're not already).

Welcome! :) You can switch him to adult food now, or you can feed a large breed puppy food. Switching now may reduce his risk of developing panosteitis, a painful bone condition that affects bassets and other heavy-boned breeds.

Welcome! Sherlock is one handsome houndie boy.

Bassets are a great dog to be owned by. So stubborn, cute, sweet and a whole lot of other adjectives. Life is certainly not dull when they are around.

Welcome! Sherlock is a noble looking fellow. This breed will always keep you on your toes and hopefully laughing all the way. Our Sam is the joy in our sometimes methodical day to day life, couldn't imagine life without him now.

Thank you for the "Noble looking" compliment. Bassets are gorgeous dogs. I never regret that we chose this breed, even when he is being really really stubborn. Handsome, funny, loving, playfull... oh how much we love that baby.

Welcome Lenny, Irina, and Sherlock. Another Marylander, Haford County now, used to live in B'more. There are a few of us here: Me and hounds Dudley & Minnie, jallen9696 from Kingsville with one hound; and, Vision from B'more who loves this board and Basset Hounds...but doesn't have one.

Ask any and all the questions you have, please.

Here's Dudley, hope you like Baltimore football! (Pic is a few years old)

The "Search" option, which appears in the upper right area of the page on each forum, can be a great resource..if you have questions on bite inhibition for example, just click on "Search" in the General Basset Hound Discussion forum, type in "bite inhibition", and past threads where that topic was discussed can be accessed. If the question concerns a medical issue, go to the Health Forum, and search from there.

The archives contain alot of valuable information and the search option is easy to use.
