I'm new to the board. A couple of months ago I adopted Henry from the local Humane Society. Of course, he had to sacrifice an important part of his anatomy in order to be sprung. But, my lurking here tells me that's a good thing.

Henry's full of mischief about which I'll have more to share. For now, I just want to introduce him.

By the way, Henry was a stray. The vet estimates he's about two years old.

We see that same stretch at our house...the difference is that Ruby will do the stretch, have her chest on the floor, butt in the air and do the "creepy-crawlie" and walk all over the place in that position.

She seems to be smiling when she's doing it too. I'll try to get a pic of her when it occurs.

When I got Henry he was even more boney. Since I've been feeding him, he's gained three pounds, and we're not through. He now weighs 43. I'm shooting for 46.

He is built very much like our Molly was when we adopted her from the humane society. She has certainly bulked up over the years...
Thank you for adopting him. I am such a believer of adopting dogs from the humane society after our 2 great experiences!
Welcome to the board. It is a great place to be!

Welcome! Henry is a real cutie. How did you come to find him? Were you looking for a Basset? I'm just curious because my Moe was a pound puppy, too (estimated to be seven to nine months old). I wasn't even looking for a Basset when I found him. I was only there that day to update my daughter's application for a dachshund. Poor little Moe had been found tied to the shelter gate one hot July morning. :( He smelled bad, he was sick and too skinny, he had a deformed front leg, he was not housebroken, he had a chewing problem (which we found out later was actually a serious biting problem) and he had not even a tiny bit of training. All he had going for him was a pretty face that stole my heart. :D

He's now seven and a half years old, is spoiled rotten, and is pampered and loved by the whole family. Every day he makes me laugh. He's my joy. :D

How did you come to find him? Were you looking for a Basset?
I'm an older guy, no longer married. Recently, I moved from California after 36 years and after becoming unwilling to continue paying the premium required to remain there.

I had a home built, and resolved to get a dog for a companion. My last dog I lost many years ago as part of a divorce settlement, and I always missed her (Lady, now passed on). We'd adopted Lady from the Humane Society, and it had worked out beautifully.

So, when I went to the local Humane Society, I was simply looking for a dog I could love the same way I loved Lady.

I looked at and walked several dogs, but none quite seemed to do it for me. Then, they mentioned that they'd gotten a Basset hound in a couple of days ago, and I might want to consider him. The rest is history. He was the one, and everyone at the Humane Society, after taking a closer look at Henry, remarked that he was far and away the best there at the time.

So, I wasn't particularly seeking a Basset, but, wow, am I blessed! (In spite of the expected Basset traits to which I'm quickly adjusting).
